RLFblog is Saying Good-bye Blogspot, Hello Wordpress #RLFblog #authors

This is the last day of posts on the old Romance Lives Forever blog site.

It's been home since 2009 and a wonderful place to learn about authors and new books. There have been well over 1500 posts and untold number of readers. I look forward to visiting every day.

As of tomorrow, May 17, 2017, the hashtag #RLFblog is moving to its new location on the Wordpress platform. I'd love for you to come over, follow the blog via RSS, email or social media.

The new site allows easier navigation, better interface with social media, and enhanced features on the back end. On Blogspot, if I want to change something about a keyword that's been used on several posts, I must go to each individual post. On Wordpress, I simply go to the list of keywords, change it once and it changes on all the posts at once. There are many other features, best of which is that I own the domain name and I can decide what to host, what to share, and how to share it.

The new site permits a dropdown menu with subheadings. If I want to see what books are in the Military Romance category, I can point to the word Romance at the top, and a dropdown menu shows up. I can then choose Military from the list. But surprise! When I point to Military, it shows a sub-category of its own: SEALs. The same way in Paranormal, where it shows Ghost and Shapeshifter. There's also an enhanced search feature at the top left of each page. Entering a book title or an author name will bring up every mention of it on the site. Come try it out!

Authors - come see the new site

Authors, be sure to sign up on the new site for a spot on the blog. All posts on this site with active books were moved to the new site. Book cover ads will remain on both sites through the end of 2017. Until the end of June, buying one year of cover ad space on the new site nets three extra months of exposure.

While I'm saying good-bye to Blogspot, it is a fond farewell and a grateful one. This site was home for many years and I honed my blogging chops here. Now, it's time to move onward and upward. Farewell, Blogspot, and thank you.

The new site will have the same social media connections (with enhanced sharing) plus be connected to Triberr and have an even better reach there.

I want to send a shout-out to Dee Owen at Personalized Marketing, Inc. who helped me design and implement the new site. I could not have done this without her. If you need help with a website, blog, or you want expert marketing assistance, don't hesitate to contact her. Do tell her Kayelle Allen sent you. You'll get a nice discount.

When Humans Fail Hope - Rana: Teenage Queen #scifi #romance #RLFblog

Liza shares a bit of history.
Why did humans come to Hope?
Because they not only destroyed Earth but then they ruined the first planet they escaped to, which called originally called Hope (then renamed it Hopeless as it became crammed full of formally rich and totally useless people). Always the optimist, or perhaps, simply lacking creativity, they name this planet Hope as well.
What did the fairies think about them naming their planet Hope?
They couldn't care less. Frankly, naming a planet just seemed silly. But it amused them enough that they would name little rocks silly names like 'Rocky', paint them and give them to each other on the human's silly holiday.
Since when the ship first arrived, the Fairies welcomed them and let them name the planet, the humans assumed they were the new masters. The three to four foot tall fairies, who looked like humans, since their wings were hidden, had happy demeanors and were most helpful finding them nice places to live. Thus, the humans were not frightened by the little people. In fact, due to a serious shortage of human women, the men were most happy to mate with the taller of the little women.
And this is exactly how Rana, our soon to be Teenage Queen came to be. Her father was a human, but her mother was a powerful fairy, and so is Rana. She'll need it for the troubles ahead.
Rana is only sixteen when she becomes queen. Her first challenge is to quell an internal coup while a massive army storms the gates of her castle. Her enemies believe her to be a child, but she has powers they've never suspected. She also has great dreams for her people, and she will do whatever is necessary to make them happen, even marrying a prince she does not want.

#Fundraiser Her First Knight by @liviaquinn #RLFblog #military #romance benefits #veterans in May

May sales of Her First Knight by Livia Quinn go to veterans charities.
He's a veteran and a billionaire with a passion for soldiers. But will it cost him everything? Her First Knight by Livia Quinn.
Today's featured book is Her First Knight, a military romance by Livia Quinn, a May fundraiser for veterans.
Billionaire ex-soldier and CEO, Ridge Romano's mission is to improve the lives of wounded veterans. With the big vote on his veterans bill coming up before Congress soon, how had he ended up on stage between two cover models with a hundred women shouting, "Take it off, Tucker!?" That's the question his family and friends would be asking tomorrow, that and "Who's Tucker?" If he can only slip away without repercussions.
Buffy Calloway's face and body were recognizable worldwide but the 'face' she's looking for is the face of her franchise. Interviewing cover models at the D.C. conference, she finds 'her man'. Tucker - the late arrival - has the 'je ne sais quoi' that will make her talent agency and photography studio an immediate success.
The Calloways have always known what they wanted and Buffy knows he's 'the one'. There's just one problem. Ridge laughs at the notion of himself as a cover model. He has more important priorities. Who is Buffy to argue with such a noble cause, but she's determined to show Ridge he has underestimated the influence of a vast romance community.

Is It True: Sayara St Clair @SayaraStClair Hurt Me, Heal Me #RLFblog

Play Is It True with today's guest Sayara St Clair, author of Hurt Me Heal Me, an Erotic Romance. This is a game in which authors answer yes and no questions. They can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

First, tell us about your book.
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
After the death of her Master, Caitlin Bennett discovers years of abuse and sadistic cruelty at his hands have made her a slave to pain. To reach her peak, Cait needs the type of extreme agony few responsible Doms are willing to dole out, especially Doms like Paul Nelson. Willing to offer the love she craves, Paul’s nearly perfect—except for his aversion to the whip.
Paul refuses to hurt Cait, instead attempting to recondition her through patience and trust. But the longer Cait suffers from lack of sexual release, the more she’s convinced her mind and body are irrevocably programmed. And time to convince her otherwise is running out. Waiting in the wings is a newbie Dom who’s determined to have Cait for his own…who’s learning the whip just for her.
Caitlin will soon have to choose—the man who can give her what she wants? Or the man who can give her what she needs?

Now, tell us Yes or No for each answer below. Feel free to explain any (or none) of your answers.
Is it true:
this is your first book? Yes.
this book is part of a series? Yes, it’s part of the Dante’s Purgatory Series.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
Oh yes, I did indeed. My characters love waking me up at 4.30-5.00 am with fantastic bits of dialogue that I can’t ignore. I think it’s to get back at me for all the trauma I put them through.
you did research for this book?
Yes. I spent a lot of time researching shibari/kinbaku techniques. Sometimes, though, I’d get a bit lost staring at beautiful, evocative photos of people tied up in rope. Oh well, I’m only human.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
No, they’re all human…well, except for Ivan (Caitlin’s sadistic ex-Master). He’s barely human.
this book has more than one genre?
Yes. It falls into the categories of Erotica as well as Contemporary Romance.
you speak more than one language?
Yes. I learnt Italian at school and I remember some of that. And now, I’m learning to speak Thai.
you grew up where you live now?
No. I was born in Australia, but about eight years ago, I moved to Thailand. Let’s just say, extreme culture shock ensued.
you love to read?
YES! I’m a voracious little bookworm.
you are never late?
No. I used to be on time for everything. And now that I have my own family, we are late for every. Single. Thing.
you love pizza?
Yes. If it has meat/chicken, pineapple and chilli on it, I’m happy. You give me something that’s called seafood in the shape of sticks, I’m gonna get cross.
you love sushi?
No. I prefer my food cooked to within an inch of its life.
you have a pet?
Yes, I have fish. I used to have dogs back home, but unfortunately my tiny Thai garden isn’t suitable for puppies. The kind of puppies I like—the ones I used to have—are Rottweilers and Bullmastiffs. They would tear this place up before I could blink!

A Raging Madness by Jude Knight @JudeKnightBooks #RLFblog #historical

A Raging Madness, Jude Knight: counterfeit marriage, real enemies. Their marriage is fiction. Their enemies are real. Ella has survived abuse and scorn. Alex is a broken-down soldier. They must face their past to find their future.

Filters Are for Water and Coffee

"Show. Don't tell." Every writer has heard this mantra. Filter words are all about telling. They're verbs that take the reader one step away from experiencing life as your POV character. Leah Wohl-Pollack of Invisible Ink Editing gives this list:
to see
to hear
to think
to touch
to wonder
to realize
to watch
to look
to seem
to feel (or feel like)
to decide
to know
to sound like
to notice
to be able to
to note
to experience
to remember
If your POV character is doing any of these, you're telling, not showing. So when I edit, I do a search on each of these words and its variants, evaluating them to see if I'm pulling the reader out of the action. For example, in one draft I found:
Alex was managing to smile, though he looked pale. She went to place a comforting hand on his shoulder then realized how gory her hands were, and instead bent to lay her lips against his forehead.
This became:
Alex managed a smile, though all the color had leeched from his skin, which was slick with sweat. She went to place a comforting hand on his shoulder then stilled her gory hands and instead bent to lay her lips against his forehead.
It's a great tip. For more, just Google 'filter words'.

Today's featured book is A Raging Madness, a historical romance by Jude Knight.
Ella survived an abusive and philandering husband, in-laws who hate her, and public scorn. But she's not sure she will survive love. It is too late to guard her heart from the man forced to pretend he has married such a disreputable widow, but at least she will not burden him with feelings he can never return.
Alex understands his supposed wife never wishes to remarry. And if she had chosen to wed, it would not have been to him. He should have wooed her when he was whole, when he could have had her love, not her pity. But it is too late now. She looks at him and sees a broken man. Perhaps she will learn to bear him.
In their masquerade of a marriage, Ella and Alex soon discover they are more well-matched than they expected. But then the couple's blossoming trust is ripped apart by a malicious enemy. Two lost souls must together face the demons of their past to save their lives and give their love a future.

Discover Alina K Field's new Regency Romance @AlinaKField #RLFblog #historical

Welcome Alina K Field, author of The Bastard's Iberian Bride, a new Regency Romance.
Why did you write this book?
I had a secondary character in one of my earlier books who stuck with me and demanded his own romantic adventure. As it turned out, Bink Gibson was an illegitimate son of an earl who served as a spy lord for England during the Napoleonic wars. While I like all the titled gentlemen who populate the Regency world, I had a great deal of fun writing a character who doesn't quite fit in with his aristocratic father and siblings. The Bastard's Iberian Bride is the first book in a series I'm calling Sons of the Spy Lord.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I love historical romances, the more adventurous, the better.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
If I may have two: William Doyle, who appears in several of Joanna Bourne's books, and is the hero of her book The Forbidden Rose, and Loretta Chase's Rupert Carsington, the hero of her book Mr. Impossible.
What are you working on at the moment?
I'm cleaning up Book 2 in the Sons of the Spy Lord series, doing final revisions.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
I'll be releasing the second book in this series in late summer 2017, and the third book around the end of 2017.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Genre: Historical Romance,
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Daughter of spies
For a chance at true freedom, Paulette Heardwyn needs the fortune left her by her inscrutable father. But she doesn't know what it is, where it is, or how to find it, and the only man with answers, the Earl of Shaldon, takes his secrets to the grave. Worse, the dead earl tries to force her marriage to his bastard son—and leaves her prey to a traitor seeking the same treasure she's after.
Soldier, Steward, Bastard
Bink Gibson is ready to throw off his quiet life as steward to his old commander and head for India and the chance of prosperity. But before he can leave he's summoned to the deathbed of the Earl of Shaldon, a meddling spymaster, a complete stranger…and his father.
And the Earl has set a trap Bink will never be able to resist.

Genre: Science Fiction Romance
Now, tell us Yes or No for each answer below. Feel free to explain any (or none) of your answers.

Is it true:

this is your first book?
No! I think it’s about my thirtieth. Of course there were some really short stories mixed in, and a number of anthologies so I could be wrong. Or right. There’s always a chance I’m right!
this book is part of a series?
Yes, this is the first book in the Terras Five series featuring lots of hot alpha male heroes, who just happen to be cyborgs.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
No. On the contrary, I was quite happy to fall blissfully asleep and dream about having my very own cyborg lover.
you did research for this book?
Umm. Sure. I sent out an intergalactic call for information on the development of a rumored cyborg colony with human ancestry. Imagine my surprise when they returned my call! Please don’t tell my children. They already think I’m a little strange.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
Yes. Definitely! Spike is not human. He is a miniature dragon with the loyalty of a cat. Yup. That means exactly what you think.
this book has more than one genre?
Yes. It has science fiction and romance and cyborgs and futuristic. That’s lots for one book, don’t you think?
you speak more than one language?
No. Nein. Nyente. Non. Het. Nada. Nao. Nem.
you grew up where you live now?
**Snort** Hardly. As a kid I moved a lot, and then I became an adult and acquired the ability to move across entire continents in a single, stressful, insane move. Just FYI, I have no intention of ever moving again. Ever.
you love to read?
you are never late?
True. I was once characterized as chronically early. And in case you were wondering, it’s not hereditary. I have two children who prove that on a regular basis.
you love pizza?
you love sushi?
you have a pet?
No. I have a spoiled little rescue mutt, and a Himalayan cat with a God complex.

It Takes a Cat Burglar by Cailin Briste @CailinBriste #RLFblog #SciFi #Romance

He's a thief, a cat burglar, training her to become his partner not his lover. She intends to steal his heart. Welcome Cailin Briste, author of It Takes a Cat Burglar, a new sci-fi romance.
Why did you write this book?
It Takes a Cat Burglar began with a prompt in a Goodreads group writing event. The characters wouldn't keep to the prompts story line, so I put it aside and wrote another story for the group. I had thought of including it in a boxed set, but when that fell through I decided to self-publish the novella. Now I intend to write additional A Thief in Love Romances and make a series.
What is your favorite genre to read?
If you go by the number of books on my kindle, historical romance wins by a landslide, Regency romance in particular. I love the fantasy aspect of many of these novels.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
My favorite character comes from the Foreigner series by C. J. Cherryh. Bren Cameron is the only human allowed to interact with the Atevi. Humans landed on the Atevi planet after a disaster separated them from human space. He's supposed to be writing a dictionary that will allow the two species to talk effectively to one another. A difficult task because the Atevi are wired completely differently from humans. In the first book someone tries to kill him, and the entire series (20 books) is set in motion. I love his struggle to communicate, to find the words that have meaning to humans and Atevi, to keep the delicately balanced peace between the two species.
What are you working on at the moment?
My works in progress include a novella for the next SFR Shooting Stars anthology, the Cosmic Love Cabaret. It's the love story of Master Trey from the first Sons of Tallav book Shane: Marshal of Tallav. He was a Dom at the Opio Institute, a sex school, but now works at the Whip Hand, a BDSM club. He's been delegated the task of explaining dominance and submission to the newly hired creative director of the Whip Hand's cabaret.
I'm also about a third of the way into Rand: Son of Tallav, the third book in the Sons of Tallav series. It's the story of Randolph, the owner of the Whip Hand, and best friends of Shane and Maon, characters from the first two books. He's a sadist, so this book is taking a lot of thought.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
The Cosmic Love Cabaret boxed set will be available for pre-order in September and released in October.
Please tell us about your latest book.
